August 2023

What a return to the Children’s Church is was on Sunday 6th August at 9.30am. As the adults in church observed the Feast of the Transfiguration and the meaning behind the marvellous occurrence in the life of our Lord, the children concentrated on the gospel for 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time – the story of the ‘loaves and fishes’.

The children assembled in the Lady Chapel, which has become their area, to hear about the miracle where 5000 people sat on a hillside to listen to Jesus teaching. But they were hungry and the disciples were at a loss to know what to do. Jesus took fives loaves of bread and two fish, blessed them and then the disciples shared the food among the people. All were fed and all were satisfied. The children answered all of the questions and gave imaginative, superb answers.

It was a joy to be with them and we now look forward to the beginning of our new Sunday School on the third Sunday in September on the 17th when they and their parents will join the church at 11am before leaving for the own lessons and craft. They will rejoin the congregation just prior to the offertory hymn to share their morning work.

St Hilda’s is on the march, led by our young people, to a new period in its history. Why not come and join them to see what you are missing!
